Quick takes : Deer in the dusk…

A month ago I took advantage of a cut-price hire for an AF-S Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G to try my hand at photographing wildlife (which I don’t seem to get round to doing terribly often!).
Pitched up at Wollaton Park (twice , one afternoon – then the following morning with a friend) , and also Attenborough Nature Reserve during the weekend. Sadly the weather for the most part was quite flat – but I did get to hang out near closing time at Wollaton Park… which made for some interesting dusk sights such as the lone stag above.
The “telephoto effect”at 400mm really does flatten down and soften the complex shapes of overarching branches in the trees which comes to life with an otherworldly edit (hint – I shot this overexposed and pulled down 2 stops in Lightroom).
From a photography perspective this also demonstrates good example of how effective the VR system is. Even as I was leaning back on the monopod to aim up towards the branches it wasn’t defeated at 1/60s.😀

I’ll shortly have a full take uploaded with more images from the afternoon in the coming week here.
