How To Make Pictures
Smartphone urban photography walks and editing workshops by Lamar Francois
Photography has helped me understand my inner world and I’d love to share this with you so I’m planning a series of smartphone photography walks and workshops for 2025 in and around Nottingham , and possibly beyond.
Take your photography to the next level with smartphone photography workshops drawing on my wide experience capturing and documenting urban landscape scenes in Nottingham. Find info below for the latest event or sign up to my Mailing List.
My aim is that I'll be leaving you with fresh ideas , tips and inspiration - as well as showcasing the potential for mobile photography , and printed images to showcase your new skills.
As part of my client work I’ve been able to deliver workshops to various organisations including the NHS and Young Creatives Nottingham Here’s a snapshot of the feedback I’ve recieved:
“I’ve always had an interest in photography so it was such an honour getting to take part in the workshop and having Lamar was such a bonus because he took his time to explain things and the importance of using different angles/ lenses . I also enjoyed the editing bit and it was much more fun getting to play around with the different possibilities of what the pictures i had taken could be "
"This workshop gave me a chance to see Nottingham in a different way. Before this day, I just walked past any monument, and I didn't have enough time to appreciate their beauty "
Frequently asked questions…
How will my background as a photographer influence the workshop? What’s my teaching style?
I’m largely self taught and I really enjoy and relish the opportunity of sharing my techniques and ideas with others! I tend to do this by initially demonstrating an idea or concept of how to capture a scene , then giving you the space to try something similar. Occasionally I’ll make suggestions as to what might work well - or if I see a participant doing something interesting so you can build on this. I’m very keen on giving you space to try new things without being overly prescriptive in my approach.
Is there an age limit?
Those aged under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian on their ticket , but other than that this is suitable for those aged 13 and up.
Will refreshments be included?
At the minute I am unable to provide refreshments - but I am considering this for future workshops. Within the City Centre there are many options for snacks/drinks and we will pass a few pubs.
What payment methods are accepted?
I will be taking payment via a third party website which will manage ticketing - they will allow for all major credit/debit card payments as well as Paypal for this.
What's the refund policy?
If I need to reschedule or cancel the workshop due to weather or illness , I'll endeavour to give a minimum 24 hours' notice and offer option of future dates or a refund. Regrettably I'm unable to give refunds if a participant needs to cancel.
What equipment do I need to bring?
I'll be focussing on smartphone photography so any recent smartphone with a built in camera will be enough - no need for dedicated mirrorless/SLR cameras. This workshop will have an outdoor component to it , so please being appropriate footwear and clothing.
