With technical issues now resolved with my host , am now able to share with you a double header of Photo of the Month this time round having missed out posting in August with me taking a bit of a quiet period on the website.

Kings Cross St Pancras Underground , London by Allies & Morrison – June 2016. Some repeated riding of escalators with camera pushed down to the handrail got me to this image eventually , trying various shutter speeds along the way. Initially preferred a tighter crop with the 35mm but too much vibration killed that one off. Have a variety of images from inside the tunnel itself to show though I think the one which resonates most if the sense of being inside.

The Pump House at Nottingham Contemporary by Michael Beutler –  August 2016 going very wide to jam up the space and showcase the artistic merit using the exaggerated perspective and processing in a fitting , slightly cartoonish manner with very little shadows to emphasise the sense of wonder and curiosity which I felt exploring the spaces.

In a sense I’m kind of relearning how to find a sense of curiosity as I explore a new chapter within my work – which is the significant thread behind the two images I’ve chosen this month. As some of you will be aware I’ve been given an opportunity to access some mentoring from the Princes’ Trust with my aim to write a formal business plan and present it with the help of some coaching earlier next year. What perhaps sums the last few years up aptly is that I could have worked with the Prince’s Trust in early 2013 , six months post-graduation from university – but that I only found out three month ago that I was indeed eligible! A loss of self-esteem and confidence due to some personal life issues which meant I let my craft define the rest of my self-esteem , which in turn meant I put a lot of pressure on myself to perhaps “achieve” – perhaps unrealistically ,which didn’t work out well – not to mention not being fair on my craft , and did a lot of things for not massive reward.

With that in mind I’ve taken it slightly easy in terms of photographing new material this month (but making media appearances along the way!) along with editing (working on a portrait of Newcastle), but in September I’ve got quite a few ideas up my sleeve including a public exhibition which I’m sorting material for right now – all will be revealed soon.
