Spent a good time at the Whee! festival yesterday at the Lakeside Arts Centre catching up with Architects of Air’s latest luminarium design ,Katena – having been a fan for many years (with them giving me one of my earliest comissions in 2012).  Alan Parkinson , the chief designer keeps coming up with subtle but fascinating tweaks to their luminaria over the years . This year’s feature is a distinctive pentagonal light tube directing the outside sunlight to the centre of a silvered dome , offering a contrast to the other multicoloured domes within.

After the visit to the dome I was pointed in the direction of a performance featuring astronauts and space stuff – curious I decided to take a watching brief anyway and wasn’t disappointed with a spectacular acrobatic performance.

Didn’t make a lot of photographs of the Highly Sprung show as wanted to focus on watching but this moment as the astronaut lauched up in front of the Katena dome was too surreal and other-worldly to be able to pass up. A vision from another alien world perhaps?

This is the first entry in a new monthly gallery (Photo of the month) I’m putting together to show off some off some of the work I do on this website. Have previously put together some full-screen galleries but have been finding it difficult to manage them and keep them fresh , and this should help some!
